Friends and Friendship
This book in a special way is intended to survey on the doctrine of friendship, since it is the most experienced practice in all ages. Aristotle greatly expounded this doctrine, and it is from his explanations, that the research tries to merge with the present digital society.
The book aims at explicating the doctrine of friendship and its features from the view of Aristotelian period, and in a special way in the present times where technology has greatly emerged.
The interactions and relationship formations among people seem to occur based on various joining factors. What real bring people together in a relationship? What guarantees the duration of our relationship with others? This research is aimed at showing the factors and qualities in friendship formations.
This work is organized into three chapters from which we shall have to answer our main questions as above;
The first chapter touches the important points involved in Aristotelian doctrine of friendship. These include the three kinds of friendship, the activities and character in friendship, number and quality of friends, friendship between the unequal, the place of love in friendship, the relationship between friendship, justice and the constitution, and finally the occasions of breaking up friendship.
Chapter two on the other hand considers friendship patterns in the contemporary digitalized society. Under this aspect, it clearly expounds what a digital society is, and the way the present social situation is, in relation to friendship and various ways of interacting.
Chapter three tries to compare the two first chapters and comes with the indications that, the present interactions, and making of friends, do not run far from what Aristotle had already pointed out. The conclusion of the research presents an analysis and an overall view of the present interactions, and gives out a little comment on the position of friendship in a society.
This work is a sum total of discussions, experience, studies and survey on friendship and relationship formations, over a reasonable period of time. The methods used in this work are the philosophical method in the form of transcendental method, whereby the analytical and synthetic methods are used together.
In all its scope, this book helps one to be acquitted with the knowledge he/she has on the friendship and generally, relationship formation. Moreover, through this research, one will figure out things which he/she might have been unaware of, concerning various discussed issues in the research.
